Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important grain legume crop worldwide.
In the Mediterranean regions, and under rainfed conditions, grain production depends on the climatic variability over years. Particularly important are rainfall amount and distribution, as well as high temperatures during the reproductive phase.

There is a lack of knowledge on the yield contributing traits as well as on
genotype x environment(GE) interaction for yield stability of chickpea under
Mediterranean conditions. This knowledge is required for the breeding of new chickpea cultivars with improved adaptation to the environmental constraints prevailing in this region.
